At Adera, bead parties are more than just creative gatherings—they’re a way to build community, celebrate culture, and share stories of transformation. But last week, the unexpected walked through our door: eight TCU football players ready for an afternoon of bracelets, buna, and bold perspective shifts.
These athletes—accustomed to cleats, not crafts—stepped into a world of color, culture, and connection. They rolled up their sleeves, chose beads made from upcycled TCU football programs and discarded ammunition, and crafted bracelets—some to keep, others to give away.
Over steaming cups of traditional Ethiopian buna poured from a Jebena, they learned the rhythm of hospitality: three cups, each symbolizing a deeper bond. They laughed as they fed one another
popcorn in the Ethiopian tradition of gursha, a gesture that teaches: “I value you more than myself.”
Then came the moment that changed the afternoon—they met the Adera artisans. Through video, the players saw the faces and heard the voices of women whose lives have been transformed through dignified work, hope, and community. One player was stunned to learn that just one long necklace pays a full week’s salary for an Adera mom. Another purchased a necklace as a gift for Coach Sonny Dykes’ wife, Kate, determined to share the story beyond the bead.

They started with skepticism. They left with bracelets, a new understanding of purpose—and maybe even a little pride in their handiwork. “I love crafts,” one player grinned, showing off his design. Then he asked to make another.
Sometimes, the most unexpected guests bring the greatest surprise. Adera is so grateful for these young men who gave their afternoon to stand in solidarity with women halfway around the world. Because while we may not be able to change every life, together—we can change one.
Go Frogs. Go Further.
We go to grow. We go to share. We go to connect.
Thank you for helping make that possible.

Adera’s First Pre-K Class is Thriving—But We Need a Building

We are thrilled to share that Adera’s first class of Pre-K students is off to an incredible start! These little learners are thriving—fully engaged and already mastering the Amplify curriculum. Their joy is contagious, and their progress is inspiring.
But as we look ahead to the fall, we face a pressing need: a building.
We are actively searching for a facility in the neighborhood to rent—one that will provide a safe, welcoming space where our students can continue to grow academically, emotionally, and spiritually.
Please join us in prayer as we seek God’s provision for the right location.
Together, we can give them the foundation they need to thrive.
Thank you for believing in these children and standing with us in prayer.
“Adera Foundation shares the gospel in both word and deed transforming the lives of the poor in Ethiopia giving help and true hope.”
