This year brought significant challenges for Adera’s staff and families, but also remarkable growth and transformation.
Pivoting for Our Students’ Future
Adera recognized that the school we partnered with for over 300 students was not honoring our agreement. Overcrowded classrooms, inadequate teacher support, and restrictive policies left our children undervalued and their needs unmet. We knew we had to act.
In August 2024, we successfully transitioned these 300+ students into seven local private schools, ensuring they receive the individual attention and care they deserve. While the testing process revealed gaps in their learning, it also opened doors for tailored education plans.
By placing students in multiple schools, Adera now focuses more intentionally on each child as an individual. We’ve hired teachers dedicated to regular assessments and personalized support, helping our students thrive rather than getting lost in the crowd.
Pre-Kindergarten: A New Beginning
We are praying and actively seeking a dedicated facility for our kindergarten program. In the meantime, we’ve decided to leave the daycare students in place and began an unofficial Pre-K program using the internationally recognized Amplify curriculum.
Under the guidance of the incredibly talented teacher Zion, our 31 Pre-K students are now speaking English and beginning to read. These young learners will form the first graduating class of Adera Academy in 2038!
Land & Facilities: Seeking God’s Best
Securing land that meets government standards for a permanent facility is one of our biggest challenges. We’ve partnered with Msaada Architects to evaluate options and design spaces where students can thrive while meeting Ministry of Education requirements.
We are praying fervently for clarity, provision, and the perfect space to open the official doors of Adera Academy in 2025.
Dental Team: Restoring Smiles and Hope
In September, Adera sent our first dental team to Ethiopia with astounding results. Among their many successes were two young mothers who had been hiding their smiles due to missing teeth.
One of our dedicated dentists went above and beyond, creating custom retainers with attached teeth after returning to the U.S. These were sent back to Ethiopia and fitted, restoring not just their smiles but their confidence.
Adera cannot do everything for everyone, but we can do something for someone. These life-changing moments bring smiles of hope and a reminder of the impact we can make together.
Looking Ahead to 2025
The road ahead is filled with promise and potential. From launching the Adera Academy to continuing to equip and empower students and families, 2025 will be a year of growth, opportunity, and transformation.
