16 May Hello from Dubai!
Hello from Dubai! We made it here around noon local time yesterday and explored the city in the afternoon. After a 15 hour flight yesterday, I have lost all concept of time. It is incredibly difficult to piece together how much time has passed and what day it currently is. Despite this confusion and a lack of sleep, yesterday was incredible! We took a bus tour through Dubai in the afternoon and made four key stops. Our first stop was the Blue Mosque where we wore traditional clothing in order to enter the religious building. The architecture was beautiful! Our second stop was the beach on the Persian Gulf. It was nearly 100 degrees outside yesterday when we arrived, so the water was a nice break from the heat. Our third stop was the Atlantis resort on the crescent of Palm Island. Palm island is a man-made island in the shape of a palm tree. There are currently plans to construct a second palm island of even greater size. The shape of the island was preserved by creating an underwater tunnel to reach the tip of the crescent that holds the hotels. Our final stop on the tour was Burj Khalifa, the tallest skyscraper in the world. As we drove back to the hotel after the tour, the sun was setting on the city so beautifully. I feel so lucky to have the chance to explore the world. We are currently sitting at the Dubai airport getting ready to head to Addis Ababa. Prayers for a safe flight and next two weeks there! And a very happy birthday to my mom!! So sad to be missing her on her special day!!
