Why Adera
Adera exists to keep families together, equip parents to provide for their children, and create pathways that break the cycle of generational poverty.
In a country where nearly two in five people are children, millions never see a classroom; in its capital, many grow up on a mountain of trash. In Korah- a 90-acre landfill rising five to six stories-families sift for scraps to eat or sell while childhood slips away.
It’s here-at the heart of the landfill that Adera serves. A mother keeps her child-and her dignity. Entry begins at the Adera Daycare, located at the landfill’s base, where little ones receive reliable care, nutrition, and early learning while their mothers are at work.
Children advance through a three-year kindergarten sequence into primary grades-far from the dangers of scavenging and surrounded by bright classrooms, caring teachers, music and play. The goal is to maintain steady attendance and follow a clear academic path.
While children learn, parents step into a practical pathway to healing and stability. Through adult programming, mothers replace day-to-day scavenging with skills, steady income, and community. Spiritual care-through Sabbath School for children, parent studies, counseling, and home visits-threads through it all, strengthening families from the inside out.
Together, these three pillars-Education for children, Economics for livelihoods, and Eternity for spiritual and family strength-form Adera’s multi-generational model, restoring dignity, opportunity, and hope where it is needed most.
Why You Matter
Proceeds from Celebrating Generosity will directly support Adera’s mission to educate, empower and transform lives in Ethiopia. When you give, you are helping to provide a high quality education in a safe and secure environment. You are giving moms the opportunity to develop skills that will help them secure a job and earn an income. Donor support has enabled Adera’s tuition-free daycare to provide preschool training, nutrition, medical care, and biblical education to children.
