Scholarship for Success

Cheryl Isom reflects: “My latest trip to Ethiopia with Adera Foundation in February introduced me to a young man that I couldn’t help but admire.

I want to introduce you to Schefferew. Schefferew is a servant leader. I met him in our feeding program at Hiber Primary School, and observed him both in October 2017 and in February 2018 on our trip. Schefferew serves the other students in the feeding program and is the first to wash dishes BEFORE he eats his own lunch. He is in grade 3 and is 17 years old, because he only started school a few years ago after he came to Addis Ababa. Both his parents have died of aids and he lived with his grandmother, but she too passed away. He is now living with a neighbor woman and her children. His life is really hard.My heart broke when I learned his story and realized he has no family at all and very little encouragement to stay in school for a better life for himself. I have personally witnessed his character. We asked our Ethiopian Executive Director, Elias, how we could come along side Schefferew and help. Here’s where you come in. Please pray about being one of the “Families for Schefferew”!”We will take one year at a time with Schefferew to see his performance. And we will keep all the “Families for Schefferew” updated as the year progresses.

You can choose one of the above…. or….of course……you can be a part of ALL 3 if you want!! After praying about how God is leading you to invest in this young man, please let me know. I will keep an email group to inform everyone who invests in Schefferew’s life.

THANK YOU for considering walking along side this young man and showing him there are “families” that will walk with him.

If you have questions or need further information, please let me know. I’m available and excited to talk about how God is working in Ethiopia. –Cheryl Isom

Here are the opportunities to help this young man and hopefully change the trajectory of his life:

Financial Support – Elias has secured a spot for Schefferew at a Christian boarding school that will allow Schefferew to enroll this coming year, work hard at catching up in grade levels and have both boarding (meals and a roof over his head) and school. The boarding school is near Elias’ house in the suburbs of Addis, so Elias can check on him frequently.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 cost $2,000/year room/board and school. Any amount you would like to contribute will give Schefferew an education and chance to catch up in grade level, Christian environment, and a place to call “home”.

Donations can be made by clicking the Families for Schefferew button and setting up a one time gift or recurring.

Check – please mail check to Adera Foundation, 2901 Riverglen Drive, Ft Worth TX 76109; in the memo line of check put “Families for Schefferew”

Deadline for donations is June 15, 2018, in order to enroll Schefferew for the upcoming school year. THANKS!!!

Prayer Families – commit to praying for Schefferew at least once a week. Once a month, write an email to Schefferew with encouragement, prayers, and/or scriptures. Send email to me, and I’ll forward to our Ethiopian staff to translate and put on “Families for Schefferew” note-cards in Amharic, and Elias will take them to Schefferew when he visits. Schefferew will know he has a “large” family that cares about him in this world.

Care Package Team – commit to putting together 1 care package for Schefferew per year; I will have Julie (or hopefully myself ) take to Ethiopia during a mission trip. This team will encourage and give tangible evidence that Schefferew has families that love and care for him.
